In-Depth Comparison
Performance
Both the Nexus S2 and S3 are powered by the same Quad-Core ARM Cortex A7 processor, ensuring rapid data processing and real-time engine control. However, the S3 steps up the game with more input and output channels, making it suitable for more complex setups. If your build requires a higher number of sensors and auxiliary outputs, the Nexus S3 will provide the flexibility you need.
Data Logging and Connectivity
When it comes to data logging, the Nexus S3 takes the lead with 128MB of internal storage compared to the S2’s 64MB. Additionally, the S3 offers an extra CAN Bus channel, which can be crucial for more advanced vehicle communication networks.
Power Management
Both ECUs feature built-in power management with the ability to control up to 25A outputs. The S2 provides four of these outputs, while the S3 offers six, giving the S3 an edge in managing more complex electrical systems in your vehicle.
Which One Should You Choose?
If you’re building a vehicle that requires moderate customization and you’re looking for a reliable, high-performance ECU, the Nexus S2 is a solid choice. It provides all the essential features you need to control your engine and manage power efficiently.
However, if your project involves a more complex setup with numerous sensors, auxiliary devices, and requires extensive data logging, the Nexus S3 is worth the investment. Its additional input/output channels and enhanced data storage capacity make it the go-to option for more demanding builds.
Final Thoughts
Both the Nexus S2 and S3 ECUs are top-tier products that embody Haltech’s commitment to innovation and performance. Whether you choose the S2 or S3, you’re equipping your vehicle with a powerful tool that will enhance your driving experience.

S-SERIES FAQS

What is the difference between the Elite and the S-Series?

With the S2 and S3, we’ve taken the best features of the Elite 1500 and Elite 2500, and combined them with more modern Nexus hardware.
The S-Series gives you these advantages over the Elite range:

  • • Supports Dual Drive-by-Wire Throttles
  • • Single Channel Onboard Wideband: Expandible to 10 channels via external CAN devices
  • • Onboard Wi-Fi using internal antenna: Enables remote monitoring and tuning through NSP and Haltech Connect App
  • • USB 2.0 Comms via USB-C: Cable comms speeds up to 40x faster than Elite. Power-up over USB means you can set up your ECU before installing it in your vehicle.
  • • Torque Management: Advanced drag racing function enabling pre-defined wheel slip, previously only available on NEXUS R series and Elite 2500T.
  • • 128MB Onboard Data-logging.
  • • Flexible IO – Unused outputs can be reassigned
  •

If I want to upgrade from an Elite to a Nexus S-Series, will I need to repin my harness?

Yes, you will need to repin the ECU side of your harness. The S-Series has different connectors and more pins.

What is the difference between the R-Series and the S-Series?

The R-Series includes on-board Power Distribution functionality, whereas the S-Series doesn’t.

Will you stop producing the Elite Series?
